Bellevue is the fifth largest city in Washington, and the third largest in the Greater Seattle metropolitan area. According to the 2016 US Census, the population was 141,400. Bellevue is widely regarded as the high-tech and retail center of the Eastside, with more than 150,000 jobs and a downtown skyline of gleaming high-rises.
While business booms downtown, much of Bellevue retains a small-town feel, with thriving, woodsy neighborhoods and a vast network of trails. Microsoft and Nintendo of America both have offices in Bellevue along with numerous other small and large businesses including: Valve, Bungie Overlake Hospital, Kaiser Permanente and more. The city hosts thriving commercial districts, including three major shopping centers including Bellevue Square, Crossroads Mall and the Overlake Shopping District.
Most of the city is served by Bellevue School District. There are four main public high schools (Bellevue High School, Interlake High School, Newport High School, and Sammamish High School) and two alternative high schools (International School and Big Picture School). Portions of Bellevue also lie within the boundaries of Lake Washington School District, Renton School District and Issaquah School District.
With nearly 100 parks, Bellevue is known as "a city in a park." Bellevue offers over 2,700 acres of parks and open space, over 90 miles of trails, 46 community playgrounds and 7 beach parks. The city also operates two 18 hole golf courses, 32 athletic fields and numerous recreation programs including swimming, basketball, theater and more!
